“My Life is My Message”
When there is a
prompting from within to share the burden of the needy, the power of
a compassionate purpose finds its path to fulfilling this need.
Swami has shown the world this by example. However, He also cautions
us, that the service undertaken should be absolutely selfless,
without a trace of ego and with no anticipated result from the act
of Seva itself.
The magnitude
and reach of His educare, medicare & socio care projects – which
afford free education, free medical care & free socio care to the
rich and poor alike, is something that seems enormous and apparently
out of reach for the average individual or Institution to emulate.
However, the unstated purpose of Sai seva activities undertaken in
these areas is to create and establish benchmarks. These form scalable replicable working
models, which can be tailored to the ability of those inspired by
‘His Work’.
While the world
is replete with opportunities for Seva, there exists a distinct
paucity in initiative. So, for those of us who have the will to make
a difference, there exist tremendous outlets to bridge this gap. We,
as Sai Students, have the requisite antecedents to play a lead role
in conceiving, formulating and executing suitable service programs
that will bring fulfillment to those who are Served, those
who Serve and above all – Swami!
Small steps have been taken towards
this end by the Alumni in different parts of the world. Monthly
Medical camps where free treatment and medication is provided for
ailments such as diabetes – a scourge for the urban poor, sanitation
in remote villages, tree plantation, equipping the youth with basic
tools and training, geriatric care for the aged, etc. have been
undertaken. They serve as torch bearers to this initiative. Swami,
the loving Mother, has always been most supportive, guided and
encouraged these initial endeavors. While there always is a great
deal of enthusiasm within each of us to serve society in the best
way we can, we need to translate it into action and as Mahatma
Gandhi once said “Be the change you want to see.”
Swami began by saying “My
life is my message”. He has now raised the bar by
stating “Make your life My message”.
